The Architecture
The Most-Loved Places around the world are almost always strongly based on
the vernacular architecture of their region. The architectural style for Bon
Secour Village takes its cue from classic Acadian and New Orleans influences
of the 19th century.
Some question whether we can still build places such as these that are profound
expressions of who we are, and that can sit so indelibly in our memories. They
say that humanity isn’t capable of building places of such great beauty
anymore. It would be absolutely tragic if a society so big and smart and strong
and rich were to settle for architecture that is inferior to most of what has
come before. Yet, that is exactly what has happened for nearly a century. It
doesn’t have to be that way.
In creating Bon Secour Village as one of The Most-Loved Places we have compiled
several builders’ handbooks through which architects communicated designs
and design principals. Our New Vernacular Book of Architecture defines the architecture
of Bon Secour and serves as a guide to the key components within its’
particular style. It ensures a neighborhood that is harmonious in its use of
compatible architectural styles and public spaces while providing flexibility
for the builders and designers, allowing for the diversity typically found in
America’s great traditional neighborhoods.
We have selected an exceptional group of world-renowned architects to design
the homes for our community. Their works are featured in our Bon Secour Residential
Homes Catalog. Each home has special architectural characteristics that will
truly make the homes in Bon Secour Village memorable.
